Yes, you can legally lock your meter box in Western Australia as long as you use an approved lock that Western Power and other utilities can open with their master key. Ordinary locks or padlocks that are not compatible with the approved Western Power master-key system should not be used. Because they block meter readers and technicians from accessing your power or gas safely. We only install compliant, WAS approved meter box locks so you stay secure and within WA regulations.

A WAS approved meter box lock is a special cam lock that has been approved by Western Australian Services so Western Power, Synergy, ATCO Gas and Water Corp can open your meter box with their master key. It keeps out burglars and unwanted visitors, but still lets authorised utility staff get in to read your meter, restore power or carry out repairs. Using a WAS approved lock is the only way to secure your meter box without risking access problems or non compliance.
